The
Actron CP9185 Elite AutoScanner Pro OBD I & OBD II Diagnostic Code
Reader/Scanner offers DIYers and technicians the features they asked for.
Upgraded features include the ability to read enhanced codes, graph engine data,
record and playback stored vehicle information, and the ability to print
information through a PC. Read enhanced data,
graph engine data, record and playback stored vehicle information. This tool
connects to your vehicle, scans various parts of your car, truck or SUV, and
retrieves a list of diagnostic trouble codes and code definitions from your
vehicle's computer. Instead of having to recreate a scenario over and over
again, you can now playback the timing to scrutinize all the data and make a
clear diagnosis. Combine this with Internet connectivity and the ability to
interface with a PC, and you have a powerful diagnostic scanner in the palm of
your hand. This device is compatible with all OBD II compliant vehicles
manufactured in North America, Asia, and Europe from 1996 to the present as well
as certain pre-1996 GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicles and can be upgraded to cover
most OBD I GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicles.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please order
carefully. There are no returns on code readers. Defective code readers will be

The
Actron CP9185 Elite AutoScanner OBD II Diagnostic Scanner Tool is equipped
with TrueLink Technology, a proprietary new technology which guarantees that
the entire range of Actron’s AutoScanner OBD II diagnostic tools will link
to and communicate with every OBD II compliant vehicle (all vehicles sold in
the US since 1996 are OBD II compliant). TrueLink, based on patented
hardware designs and software algorithms, has undergone testing on millions
of vehicles and has proven to be the most effective scan tool communication
technology yet developed.
What Is OBD? |
One
of the most exciting improvements in the automotive industry was the addition of
the OBD (On Board Diagnostics). It is the computer that activates the vehicle's
"CHECK ENGINE" light.
OBD1 (OBD I) was designed to monitor manufacture-specific systems on cars from
1981 to 1995. Then came the development of OBD2 (OBD II), which is on all 1996
and newer cars sold in the U.S. Like it's predecessor, OBD2 (OBD II) was adopted
as part of a government mandate to lower vehicle emissions. What makes OBD2 (OBD
II) more unique is it's universal application for all late model cars and trucks
both domestic and import. This sophisticated program in the vehicle's main
computer system is designed to detect failures in a range of systems, and can be
accessed through a universal OBD2 (OBD II) port, which is usually found under
the dash. For all OBD systems, if a problem is found, the computer turns on the
"CHECK ENGINE" light to warn the driver that there is something wrong and sets a
DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) to identify where the problem occurred. A special
diagnostic tool, such as the Actron CP9185 Elite AutoScanner Code Reader is
required to retrieve these codes. It is a perfect unit for do-it-yourselfers,
tuners and mechanics alike use as a starting point for repairs.
A very important thing to remember is that all emission testing facilities will
fail a vehicle that has the "CHECK ENGINE" light illuminated at the time of the
test -- even if it is only lit to remind you of a past-due oil change or
60,000-mile tune-up. With this scanner, you can shut off the check engine light
and pass the emissions test on your terms. The menu also alerts you of any
pending DTCs and reads the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) status. By reading
the MIL status the scanner gives insight into what might cause your "check
engine" light to turn on in the near future. In this way, the scanner also
provides some preventive measures to help you keep a close eye on your vehicle's
systems. These functions, combined with the simple keypad used to read, erase,
and navigate DTCs, make the CP9185 scanner a perfect solution for identifying
problems with your vehicle and keeping you safe on the road.
