How does the calibration plug work?

The calibration plug is set to the factory oil level. Once you've filled the differential, remove the plug. If oil comes out, you're at the correct level. If not, add more until it weeps from the hole, then reinstall the plug.

What maintenance is required for this differential cover?

The magnetic drain plug should be cleaned at every oil change. Simply remove the plug and wipe off any accumulated metal particles. Inspect the o-ring on the plug and replace if necessary.

Is aFe's deep reach magnetic fill plug required for installation?

No, the deep reach magnetic fill plug is not required. It is an optional upgrade that provides additional protection by capturing even more metallic particles. The stock fill plug will work fine with this cover.
