These ARP main stud kits use 12-point nuts, which are a bit easier to get a wrench on in tight spots compared to standard hex nuts. They're made from ARP's proprietary 8740 chromoly steel, heat-treated to over 200,000 psi tensile strength. This is a big upgrade for the main bearing caps on your small-block Chevy engine, helping to keep everything aligned under high stress.
When you're building or rebuilding a performance small-block Chevy, especially one that's going to see a lot of power, the stock main cap bolts can become a weak point. These ARP studs replace those bolts, offering a much more secure clamping force. They're designed to prevent main cap walk, which is crucial for maintaining proper crankshaft bearing clearance.
