Building up a 2011 or newer 5.7L or 6.4L Hemi with VVT and running higher RPM calls for a damper that can handle the torsional loads without the weight penalty of a stock unit. The ATI 918487 Super Damper replaces the factory harmonic balancer with a 5.67-inch aluminum unit that incorporates a 15-percent underdrive on the six-groove serpentine pulley, freeing up a few horsepower that the accessories would otherwise consume.

ATI uses an elastomer-bonded construction with 360 degrees of laser-engraved timing marks, making it straightforward to degree the crank or set ignition timing with a light. The damper carries an SFI 18.1 certification, which is required at most sanctioned drag strips and road courses for forced-induction and high-RPM builds. The aluminum shell keeps weight down compared to a cast-iron stocker, and the elastomer ring inside does the actual work of dampening the crankshaft harmonics that can fatigue engine internals over time.

This damper is specifically designed for VVT-equipped 2011 and newer Hemi engines. It fits the Challenger, Charger, 300, Grand Cherokee, and Durango with the 5.7L or 6.4L 392 Hemi. Confirm that your engine uses the VVT system before ordering, as non-VVT Hemis require a different part number.
