Descending grades with trailers can be hazardous, leading to overheated service and trailer brakes, which can cause brake fade, excessive wear, and costly repairs. The BD Engine brake is a time-proven variable regulating back-pressure exhaust brake designed to help you control your vehicle on those steep hills. It mounts either as a turbo-mount design, bolting in place of the factory elbow between the turbo and the exhaust system, or as an inline design mounted between the engine and the muffler or DPF/catalytic converter.

This brake features a rugged cast-iron housing that incorporates BD's exclusive AlumiBronze bushing and a positive sealing piston ring. This design helps prevent carbon and rust buildup, ensuring miles of leak-free retarding. The valve is actuated by an air cylinder, and the included durable air compressor can even be used for other applications like air horns or airbags. For automatic-equipped trucks prior to 2006, BD offers programmable AutoLoc and PressureLoc kits to electronically control torque converter clutch engagement, reducing slippage and lowering transmission temperatures for peak retarding performance.

BD's exclusive Variable Orifice Technology, combined with a solid, offset butterfly, spring-loaded cylinder, and pressure regulation, offers up to 150 retarding horsepower throughout the engine's RPM range. The butterfly valve and rotating shaft are made of stainless steel to resist corrosion, standing up to harsh, high-heat exhaust conditions. All mounting hardware is made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel. This kit comes complete with the brake, air compressor, mounting hardware, a port to monitor performance, and complete instructions, with most models including an EGT port.
