What makes Lock-Ease different from general-purpose lubricants is the graphite formula. The liquid carrier penetrates into the lock cylinder, dissolving rust and freeing stuck pins and tumblers. Once the carrier evaporates, it leaves a dry graphite film that continues to lubricate without attracting dust or dirt the way oil-based products can. That dry film also repels water, which is how it prevents locks from freezing in cold weather.
