Cometic Gasket is well-known for its multi-layer steel (MLS) head gaskets, and this particular one is built for Ford's classic Flathead V8 engines. If you're working on a 239 or 255 cubic inch Flathead V8 with a 3.375-inch bore and the 24-bolt pattern, this right-side head gasket is designed to seal things up tight. It fits a variety of 1949-1953 Ford and Mercury models, including the Ford F-1, Customline, and Mercury Monterey.
This gasket is constructed from three to five layers of stainless steel. Cometic uses stainless steel because it's strong, can rebound well, and resists corrosion, which is important in the harsh environment of an engine's combustion chamber. The outer layers have a special Viton rubber coating on both sides. This coating is heat resistant up to 482°F (250°C) and helps the gasket handle tough sealing conditions and different surface finishes you might find on an older engine block.
