This Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket is built with multiple embossed stainless steel layers, featuring an outer coating of Viton rubber. This construction is specifically designed for Ford 302 and 351 Windsor V8 engines, with a 4.155-inch bore and a compressed thickness of 0.060 inches. MLS gaskets are ideal for sealing aluminum heads to either aluminum or cast iron blocks, as they can handle the shearing forces that arise from the different expansion rates of these materials.
The multiple stainless steel layers give these gaskets increased strength and the ability to rebound, while also resisting corrosion. The Viton coating on the outer layers is a heat-resistant material capable of withstanding temperatures up to 482 degrees Fahrenheit (250 C), making it suitable for harsh sealing environments and various surface finishes.
