Starting with the embossed outer layers coated with Viton, this Cometic Ford 385 Series head gasket is built for serious sealing. Viton is a heat-resistant rubber material that can handle tough conditions and varied surface finishes, making it ideal for high-output engines. This gasket is designed to fit a wide range of Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles from the late 60s through the late 80s, including popular models like the Ford F-250, Lincoln Continental, and Mercury Marquis.
Composed of multiple layers of stainless steel, this Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) gasket offers improved strength and corrosion resistance. The center shim layer is uncoated stainless steel, allowing for variations in thickness requirements, and this particular gasket measures .056 inches thick with a 4.400-inch bore. MLS gaskets are known for their ability to rebound and withstand the shearing forces that can occur between aluminum and cast iron blocks, or between two aluminum blocks.
