Starting with a compressed operating thickness of 0.040 inches, this Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket is built for the demands of high-output Ford FE V8 engines. The gasket is constructed from multiple layers of stainless steel, which gives it increased strength and the ability to rebound, helping it resist corrosion. This construction is ideal for sealing between aluminum heads and either aluminum or cast iron blocks, as it can handle the shearing forces that can occur between dissimilar metals.

The outer layers of this gasket are embossed and coated with Viton, a heat-resistant rubber material rated up to 482 degrees Fahrenheit. Viton is chosen for its ability to handle harsh sealing environments, varying load conditions, and different surface finishes.
