Starting with a compressed operating thickness of 0.070 inches, this Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket is built for the demands of Ford FE V8 engines. It features multiple embossed layers of stainless steel, with the outer layers coated in Viton, a heat-resistant rubber material rated up to 482 degrees Fahrenheit. This construction is ideal for sealing aluminum heads to either aluminum or cast iron blocks, as it can handle the shearing forces that arise from the different metals. The stainless steel layers provide increased strength and resistance to corrosion, while the Viton coating ensures a reliable seal in harsh conditions.

The center shim layer is uncoated stainless steel and can be varied to achieve different thicknesses, which is how this gasket achieves its specific 0.070-inch compressed thickness.
