This Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket is built with three layers of stainless steel, with the outer layers coated in Viton rubber. When compressed, it sits at 0.036 inches thick and is designed for an 87mm bore, making it a solid option for your 1962-1975 Lotus Elan, Europa, or Seven.
MLS gaskets are known for their strength and ability to handle the stresses of high-output engines. The multiple stainless steel layers provide rebound resistance and help prevent corrosion, while the Viton coating on the outer layers offers excellent heat resistance up to 482°F (250°C). This makes them suitable for sealing aluminum heads to aluminum blocks or aluminum heads to cast iron blocks, as they can manage the shearing forces that can occur between different metals.
