This Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket is built with multiple embossed layers of stainless steel, featuring a compressed operating thickness of 0.036 inches. The outer layers are coated on both sides with Viton, a heat-resistant rubber material rated up to 482°F (250°C), designed to handle harsh sealing environments and varying surface finishes. This construction makes it ideal for sealing aluminum heads to either aluminum or cast iron blocks, effectively managing the shearing forces that can occur between dissimilar metals.
The stainless steel layers provide increased strength and resilience, allowing the gasket to rebound and resist corrosion.
