This Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket is built with multiple embossed layers of stainless steel, featuring Viton rubber coating on the outer layers. This construction is designed to handle the high output demands of modern engines, providing a strong seal without needing additional sealants. The Viton coating is heat resistant up to 482 F (250 C), making it suitable for harsh sealing environments and various surface finishes.
The center layer of stainless steel can be varied to achieve different thicknesses, and in this case, the gasket has a compressed operating thickness of 0.036 inches with an 87mm bore. MLS gaskets are well-suited for applications combining aluminum heads with either aluminum or cast iron blocks, as they can effectively manage the shearing forces that arise from these material combinations.
