This Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket from Cometic is built with multiple embossed stainless steel layers, featuring Viton rubber coating on the outer layers. This construction is designed to handle the high output engines found in performance vehicles and doesn't require any additional sealants. The Viton coating is heat resistant up to 482 F (250 C), making it suitable for demanding sealing environments and various surface finishes.
The center layer is uncoated stainless steel, allowing for variations in thickness to meet specific needs. At a compressed operating thickness of 0.036 inches and a 0.051 inch uncompressed thickness, this gasket is designed for a 95mm bore. MLS gaskets are well-suited for applications with aluminum heads and either aluminum or cast iron blocks, as they can manage the shearing forces that arise from dissimilar materials. The multiple stainless steel layers provide increased strength and resistance to corrosion.
