This Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket is built with multiple embossed layers of stainless steel, featuring a Viton rubber coating on the outer layers. With a compressed operating thickness of 0.045 inches and an 86mm bore, it's designed to provide maximum sealing performance for a range of Volvo B18 and B20 engines, including those found in models like the Volvo 122, 1800, and 140 series.

MLS gaskets are ideal for sealing aluminum heads to aluminum blocks, or aluminum heads to cast iron blocks, as they can handle the shearing forces that can occur between these materials. The multiple stainless steel layers offer increased strength and the ability to rebound, while also resisting corrosion. The Viton coating on the outer layers is a heat-resistant material capable of withstanding temperatures up to 482°F (250°C), making it suitable for harsh sealing environments and various load conditions.
