This Cometic Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket is built with multiple embossed layers of stainless steel, featuring an outer layer coated with Viton rubber. This construction is key for sealing performance in today's higher-output engines, and it means you won't need any extra sealants during installation. MLS gaskets are well-suited for applications where aluminum heads meet either aluminum or cast iron blocks, as they can handle the shearing forces that can develop between these different materials. The multiple stainless steel layers give the gasket increased strength and the ability to rebound, while also resisting corrosion.

The Viton coating on the outer layers is a heat-resistant synthetic rubber, capable of handling temperatures up to 482 degrees Fahrenheit (250 C). This material is chosen for its ability to perform reliably in harsh sealing environments, under various load conditions, and on different surface finishes. The center layer is uncoated stainless steel, and its thickness can be varied to meet different gasket thickness requirements. This particular gasket has a compressed operating thickness of 0.051 inches and is designed for an 83mm bore, fitting a range of VW and Audi 1800cc and 2000cc EA827 engines.
