This kit is built for street/strip applications where you want a noticeable bump in performance. It's designed for Chevrolet Small Block engines, specifically the GEN 1 versions like the 350, 400, and 327 cubic inch displacements, but it's important to confirm your specific engine block is a flat tappet design and not a factory roller from 1985 or later. If you're building a performance engine for a classic Camaro, a C10 truck, or a Corvette from the earlier eras, this kit can help you achieve a more aggressive power band.
This kit includes the camshaft itself, a set of hydraulic roller lifters, assembly lube to get everything started right, and decals. The camshaft features a 244-degree intake and 244-degree exhaust duration at .050 lift, which is a fairly aggressive profile. It's recommended for use with a 3000+ RPM stall torque converter, a 3.90 gear ratio, and aftermarket intake and headers to really let it breathe. Expect a very rough idle with this setup, which is typical for cams of this size and intended use. The hydraulic roller design means less friction and more consistent valve operation compared to flat tappet cams.
When installing this kit, remember that it's intended for engines that originally came with a flat tappet camshaft. If your engine was built from the mid-80s onward, you'll need to remove the intake manifold or timing cover to verify if it has a factory roller setup. Early 1955-1957 Chevrolet 265 engines also have specific oiling requirements on the 5th cam journal that you'll want to check. This kit is not CARB approved and cannot be shipped to California.
