Product Details
This is the COMP Cams CS 291T HR-107 MT Th hydraulic roller camshaft, designed for Chevrolet Gen 1 Small Block engines. It's built for a high-performance street or strip application, and it's important to note that it produces a rough idle, which is characteristic of performance cams like this one. This camshaft fits a wide range of Chevrolet Small Block engines, including popular displacements like the 350, 327, and 400, as well as older engines like the 283 and 307. It's crucial to confirm your engine uses a flat tappet setup, as this camshaft is not compatible with factory roller camshafts found in many 1985 and newer Small Blocks, or LS-based engines.
To get the most out of this camshaft, you'll need to pair it with other performance components. COMP Cams recommends a minimum of 9.0:1 compression, a torque converter with a 2500+ RPM stall speed, an upgraded intake manifold, proper gearing, and performance headers. The camshaft itself features a 235/249 degree duration at .050 inch lift and a 107-degree lobe separation angle, contributing to its aggressive powerband. A critical installation note from COMP Cams is that this camshaft requires a melanized or nitrided distributor gear. Using a standard cast iron or steel gear without this surface treatment will void the warranty.
When installing this camshaft, remember to check your engine's specific requirements. For 1955-1957 Chevrolet 265 engines, a groove on the fifth cam journal is needed for proper oiling. It's also important to verify if your engine is a factory roller or flat tappet by removing the intake or timing cover, as this camshaft is specifically for flat tappet applications. This camshaft is not CARB approved and cannot be shipped to California.
