About this part

Product Details

This COMP Cams CS 291Tkn-R8 .900Bc camshaft is a solid roller type designed for Chevrolet Small Block engines, specifically optimized for oval track racing with an intake duration of 263 degrees and exhaust duration of 272 degrees. It's built for displacement ranges from 415 to 430 cubic inches and is noted for providing great bottom-end power on short, tacky tracks. This camshaft fits a wide variety of Chevrolet GEN 1 Small Blocks, including popular displacements like the 350, 400, and 283, as well as many GM vehicles from the 1980s and early 1990s, such as the Chevrolet C10, Camaro, and Buick Roadmaster.

The camshaft features a .900 inch lift on both the intake and exhaust lobes, contributing to improved airflow. It is constructed with a solid roller design, which generally allows for higher RPM limits and more aggressive valve events compared to flat tappet designs. For optimal performance and to maintain warranty, this camshaft must be used with a Melanized or Nitrided distributor gear; cast iron or steel gears without these surface treatments are not compatible and will void the warranty.

It's important to verify your engine's configuration before installation. Some early 1955-1957 Chevrolet 265 engines require a specific oiling groove on the 5th cam journal, and this particular part number may not be compatible without that groove. Additionally, this camshaft is not designed for factory roller small blocks from 1985 and newer, nor for LS-based engines. Always consult your engine block and manufacturer specifications to ensure proper fitment and to confirm if any modifications, like checking the intake or timing cover for factory roller setups, are necessary.
