Product Details
When you're building a serious drag race or oval track engine for your Chevrolet Small Block Gen 1, this COMP Cams CS 312A-R7 solid roller camshaft is designed to handle sustained high RPMs. You get the camshaft itself, ready for installation into a wide range of Chevrolet Gen 1 Small Block engines, including popular displacements like the 350, 400, and others. This camshaft is specifically optimized for use with Melanized or Nitrided distributor gears, which is crucial for proper function and to maintain your warranty. Using cast or steel gears without these surface treatments is not recommended and will void coverage.
This solid roller camshaft is built for demanding applications, performing excellently with 12:1 compression ratios and 358 cubic inch engines running an open carburetor setup. It's also well-suited for setups requiring a 5000+ stall speed torque converter and 11:1 or higher compression. The grind profile, with its 276 degrees of intake duration and 284 degrees of exhaust duration (advertised), is tuned for sustained high RPM operation, making it a strong choice for long track racing where consistent power delivery is key.
It's important to note that this camshaft is not compatible with factory roller small blocks from 1985 and newer, nor will it fit LT1/LT4 engines or LS-based engines. Also, 1955-1957 models with an oiling groove in the rear journal require a specific version; please contact us if your early model has this feature. Ensure you confirm your block type by checking the intake or timing cover, as GM transitioned to roller cams gradually.
