Product Details

If you're building a street machine that's looking to harness the power of a nitrous system or a small supercharger, this COMP Cams Nitrous HP camshaft is designed to help you achieve your goals. It's specifically tuned to shift power to higher RPMs, making it a great choice for applications using a 125+ horsepower nitrous system or a small supercharger, and it works best with a 2200+ RPM stall torque converter and lower rear-end gears. This camshaft is built for Chevrolet Gen 1 Small Blocks ranging from 262 to 400 cubic inches, fitting a wide variety of vehicles like the Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette, and C10 trucks from the late 1950s through the early 2000s, though it's important to verify your specific engine's factory roller or flat tappet configuration.

The Nitrous HP series camshafts feature wider lobe separation and increased exhaust duration compared to the base XE series. This design helps to better scavenge the extra exhaust gases produced by nitrous or forced induction, allowing the engine to breathe more freely at higher RPMs. This improved scavenging and higher RPM power band can lead to better timeslips at the drag strip when running nitrous. The hydraulic roller design means less friction and wear compared to flat tappet cams, contributing to a more efficient and durable engine build.

When installing this camshaft, it's crucial to use a Melanized or Nitrided distributor gear. Using a standard cast iron or steel gear without these surface treatments will void the warranty. If your engine is an '87 or newer block that has provisions for roller lifters but came with flat tappet components, you may need a COMP Hydraulic Roller Lifter Install Kit and a compatible hydraulic roller camshaft. Always refer to the manufacturer's installation instructions for complete details on proper setup and component compatibility.
