This COMP Cams camshaft kit is built around the CS 282S Magnum camshaft, featuring a 236/236 duration at .050 inch lift. This solid flat tappet camshaft is designed to give good power for street applications, and you can expect a noticeable, choppy idle. It’s a solid option for Chevrolet Gen 1 Small Block engines, covering displacements from 262 all the way up to 400 cubic inches, and fits a wide range of vehicles like the Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette, and C10 trucks.
To get the most out of this camshaft, it’s recommended to pair it with a torque converter with at least a 2500 RPM stall speed. It also benefits from the addition of headers and lower rear-end gears to help the engine breathe and put that improved power to the pavement. This kit includes the camshaft, lifters, a timing chain set, assembly lube, decals, and instructions, so you have the essential components for your build.
It's important to confirm your engine uses a flat tappet camshaft, as many later model Small Blocks (especially from 1985 and newer) came factory-equipped with roller camshafts. Removing the intake manifold or timing cover will help you verify which type of cam your engine has. This kit is not compatible with LT1/LT4 engines or any LS-based V8s.
