This COMP Cams Xtreme Energy solid roller camshaft kit is built around the XR268 R-10 camshaft, featuring a 230/236 degree duration at .050 inch lift. This is a solid roller setup, which means it uses roller lifters for reduced friction and improved performance compared to flat tappet designs. It's designed for Chevrolet Small Block Gen 1 engines, and while it fits a wide range of vehicles like the Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette, and C10 trucks, it's crucial to verify your block is not a factory roller from 1985 or newer, as this kit is intended for flat tappet blocks.
This is a complete kit, meaning you get everything you need to get the job done. Inside the box, you'll find the camshaft itself, a set of roller lifters, valve springs, retainers, valve locks, and valve stem seals. It also includes a timing chain set to ensure your valvetrain stays synchronized, plus assembly lube and decals. This kit is recommended for weekend cruisers with a 9:1 or higher compression ratio, a 2000+ RPM stall torque converter, and lower rear-end gears. Expect a noticeable idle with this setup.
When installing this kit, remember that it's designed for blocks that originally used flat tappet camshafts. If your engine was built from 1985 onward, it might have a factory roller setup, which is not compatible with this kit. Removing the intake manifold or timing cover is the best way to confirm. For 1955-1957 Chevrolet 265 engines, a specific oiling groove on the fifth cam journal is required; contact COMP Cams for details if this applies to your build.
