This kit is a popular choice for builders looking to significantly upgrade their street machine's performance, but it does require supporting modifications like an intake manifold, headers, a torque converter with at least a 2500 RPM stall speed, and appropriate rear-end gearing to perform at its best. Expect a mildly rough idle, which is characteristic of a more aggressive camshaft profile.
The camshaft features a 230-degree intake duration and a 236-degree exhaust duration, with a 110-degree lobe separation angle. This specific grind is intended for engines like the 350, 400, and other displacement variations within the Gen 1 Small Block family. It's important to verify your engine's original setup, as GM gradually introduced roller camshafts from the mid-80s onward. While many performance-oriented vehicles like Camaros and Corvettes received them early, some trucks and SUVs retained flat tappet cams well into the 90s.
