It's a thin, hardened steel alloy seat that does more than just protect your cylinder head and shim; it also keeps the valve spring centered and securely in place.
Unlike older designs that required extensive machining to fit an external cup, this ID locator features a locating shoulder on the inside. This design helps center the seat and hold the spring firmly. This particular model, the 4868, has an outside diameter of 1.350 inches and an inside diameter of .515 inches, with a thickness of .050 inches.
