In this kit, you get one COMP Cams ID Spring Seat, part number 4784-1. This part is designed to work with valve springs in high-RPM engines where standard shims might not hold up. It acts as a hardened steel alloy seat that protects both the cylinder head and the shim underneath it. More than just protection, it also helps to properly locate and hold the valve spring in its correct position.
This locator uses an inboard locating shoulder, meaning the centering and spring-holding feature is on the inside of the part. This design avoids the need for extensive machining on the cylinder head that older-style cups required. It's made from hardened steel, which gives it the strength to handle the pressures found in performance engine builds. The dimensions are a 1.500 inch outside diameter, a .570 inch inside diameter, and it's .060 inches thick.
