If you're building a performance engine that's going to see high RPMs, you need to make sure your valve springs are properly supported. Standard shims can bend or deform under the extreme pressure and speed, which can lead to spring failure. COMP Cams has a well-built solution with their ID Spring Seats.
These aren't just simple shims; they're made from a hardened steel alloy that acts as a solid seat. This seat protects both the cylinder head and the shim underneath it, while also providing an internal shoulder that precisely locates and holds the valve spring in place. This updated design with the inboard locating shoulder means you don't need to machine the cylinder head as much as older styles that had the locating feature on the outside.
This particular ID Spring Seat has a 1.540-inch outer diameter and a .640-inch inner diameter, making it a good match for COMP Cams' 924, 925, and 939 dual valve springs.
