Made from hardened steel, this locator uses an inboard locating shoulder to center the seat and hold the spring in place. The old standard shims won't hold up to the extreme spring pressures and high RPM found in today's race engines. COMP Cams offers a simple but effective solution to this problem. These Valve Spring Locators provide a thin, hardened steel alloy seat that will not only protect the head and shim, but also locate and hold the spring in place.
This particular locator has a 1.540" outer diameter and a .640" inner diameter, making it a good match for COMP Cams dual valve springs like the 996, 998, 26099, and 991 models. Previously, this type of part was only available in a cup form with the retaining portion on the outside, which required significant machining of the cylinder head. COMP now offers an ID locator with the locating shoulder on the inside, along with the spring cup, simplifying installation.
