COMP Cams offers this ID Spring Seat, part number 4731-1, as a straightforward solution for engines running high spring pressures and high RPMs. Standard shims can struggle under these conditions, but this hardened steel alloy seat acts as a barrier between the cylinder head and the shim, preventing damage. It also plays a crucial role in keeping the valve spring properly centered and seated.
This locator features an inboard locating shoulder, meaning the centering and spring-holding portion is on the inside of the part. This design avoids the need for extensive machining on the cylinder head that older, outboard-style locators required. The .570 inch inner diameter works well with popular COMP Cams dual valve springs like the 26921 and 26926.
