These COMP Cams ID Spring Seats are made from hardened steel, offering a strong solution for engines running high spring pressures and high RPMs. Unlike older shims that can fail under stress, these locators provide a solid seat that protects both the cylinder head and the shim itself. They also play a crucial role in centering and holding the valve spring securely in place, which is vital for consistent valve train operation.
The design features an inboard locating shoulder, meaning the centering and retaining portion is on the inside of the part. This is a key update from previous cup-style locators that required significant machining of the cylinder head.
