These valve spring locators are made from a hardened steel alloy, which is important for engines running high RPMs and extreme spring pressures. Standard shims just won't hold up under those kinds of conditions. COMP Cams designed these to be a simple yet effective fix. They act as a seat to protect both the cylinder head and the shim underneath, while also keeping the valve spring properly located and held in place. Unlike older designs that required significant machining to fit a cup-style locator, these have an inboard locating shoulder and spring cup, making installation more straightforward.
The 4860 features a 1.655-inch outer diameter and a .570-inch inner diameter, with a .060-inch thickness. This design helps center the seat and ensures the spring stays put, even under demanding use.
