This COMP Cams Xtreme Energy camshaft features a nitrided surface treatment for improved durability. The XS282 S profile is designed for street/strip applications, offering increased responsiveness and more area under the lift curve compared to older camshaft designs. It's built to provide noticeable gains in torque and horsepower, especially when paired with aftermarket intake manifolds, headers, and free-flowing exhaust systems, while still maintaining adequate vacuum for accessories like power brakes.

This camshaft is a solid option for Chevrolet Big Block engines like the 396, 427, and 454, originally equipped with flat tappet camshafts. It's recommended for builds with a 3000+ RPM stall converter and likes headers and lower gear ratios, though it will produce a rough idle. The nitriding process helps to reduce wear on the cam lobes and lifters, contributing to a longer service life for your engine's valvetrain.
