Product Details
This is the COMP Cams Nitrided Camshaft CS284Mhqs7, a solid flat tappet camshaft designed for Small Block Chevrolet (SBC) engines. It's built for applications like open wheel modified racing with traction control systems, and it's particularly suited for 355 cubic inch engines with 12:1 compression, a 4-barrel carburetor, and good cylinder heads and intake manifold. The nitriding process hardens the surface of the camshaft, which helps it stand up to the demands of flat tappet operation and wear.
This camshaft features a 258-degree intake duration and 264-degree exhaust duration at .050 inch lift, with .454 inch intake lift and .460 inch exhaust lift. It's intended for use in 3/8-inch to 5/8-inch tracks with wide corners or slick surfaces. The camshaft is designed for Gen 1 Small Blocks, covering a wide range of displacements from 262 to 400 cubic inches. It's important to note that this camshaft is not compatible with factory roller camshaft Small Blocks, including LT1/LT4 engines and most engines built from 1985 onward, as GM gradually transitioned to roller cams. You'll need to remove the intake or timing cover to confirm if your block uses a flat tappet or roller setup. Early 1955-1957 Chevrolet 265 engines may also require a specific oiling groove on the fifth journal.
