COMP Cams has a straightforward fix for this: a hardened steel alloy spring seat. This part does more than just protect your cylinder head and the shim underneath it; it also makes sure your valve spring stays exactly where it needs to be.
What's neat about this particular COMP Cams spring seat is how it locates the spring. Instead of an outer locating shoulder that requires machining the head, this one uses an inboard locating shoulder. This means it centers itself and holds the spring from the inside, making installation simpler. It's made from hardened steel, so it's built to handle the stress, and the .520 inch ID ensures a snug fit for the spring. The 1.300 inch OD means it fits well within the typical bore of an LS head.
