These valves are made from a 21-4N forged steel alloy, which is known for being strong and durable. The tips are hardened to 50 HRc, so you don't need to worry about using a lash cap. COMP Cams also put a lot of thought into improving airflow; they've added a high-flow fillet relief under the head and swirl-polished fillets. This helps increase airflow without needing a larger valve and also makes the valve more resistant to cracking. The stems are hard chrome-plated and have a special surface treatment to help retain oil, which is a nice touch over just a thin plating.
