What does a brake wheel cylinder do?

The wheel cylinder is part of your drum brake system. When you press the brake pedal, hydraulic fluid pressure is sent to the wheel cylinder, which pushes outward on the brake shoes, forcing them against the inside of the brake drum to slow your vehicle.

Do I need to replace both rear wheel cylinders?

It's generally recommended to replace wheel cylinders in pairs on the same axle. This helps ensure even braking performance between the left and right sides of your vehicle.
