The main idea here is that the center carburetor only opens up when you press the pedal past about 33% to 50%. This sharpens the air signal in the venturi, preventing the bog you can get when all carburetors open at once. You can also set it up for non-progressive operation if that's what you need, or even use it to progressively operate a dual two-barrel setup. Edelbrock recommends installing this linkage and the carburetors before you mount the manifold to the engine, as some adjustments and inspections are easier to do at that stage. Keep in mind that if you're using a manifold from a different brand, some minor modifications might be needed, and the capped rod may require trimming to clear the manifold. It's a pretty universal application, but proper installation, including checking that the arms don't invert and achieving a balanced setup, is up to you and may require some trial and error.
