This is the Ford Racing BOSS 302 Big Bore engine block, a robust foundation for serious performance builds. You get the bare block itself, cast from a strong, diesel-grade iron. It features siamese bores, thick cylinder walls, and decks, making it significantly stronger than standard Ford production blocks. This block is designed as a modern replacement for the legendary BOSS 302 and BOSS 351 blocks, incorporating the latest manufacturing technology.
The Big Bore version is specifically machined to support larger displacement engines, up to 363 cubic inches. During the initial machining, the block is bored an additional 0.125 inches, resulting in an unfinished bore size of 4.120 inches. This enhanced machining ensures precise bore location, concentricity, and overall integrity. The block retains original features like the clutch cross shaft pivot hole, oil filter location, motor mount bosses, and bell housing pattern, making it compatible with many stock components. It weighs approximately 163 lbs.
When building your engine with this block, remember it requires specific components. You'll need 1/2 inch head bolts (M-6065-BOSS) or head studs (M-6014-BOSS), and specific head gaskets like the M-6051-CP331 or M-6051-S331 are recommended. It uses common OD cam bearings (M-6261-J351/R351) and includes a unique cam plug (M-6026-S351). A stock-type timing cover can be used, though the M-6059-D351 is recommended. For oil pan compatibility, the factory Mustang oil pan can be used with a custom oil pick-up tube (M-6622-BOSS302). This block is designed for an 8.2-inch deck height projects.
