This specific set is engineered for the 5.2L V10 engine found in the 2003-2008 Audi R8 and Lamborghini Gallardo. Each piston is forged in the USA from 2618 aluminum, a material chosen for its high tensile strength, which is crucial for engines under heavy load. They feature JE's proprietary Forged Side Relief (FSR) design. This design helps minimize friction and power loss by using a reduced skirt width and a shorter wrist pin, which also saves weight. Depending on the specific application, these pistons may also include an accumulator groove to help manage combustion gas pressure, improving ring seal and maintaining consistent power. A skirt coating, also application-dependent, further reduces friction and wear on the piston skirts and cylinder walls, contributing to quieter operation.
