These pistons feature JE's proprietary Forged Side Relief (FSR) design. This helps reduce friction and power loss by using a narrower skirt and a shorter wrist pin, which also saves weight. Depending on the specific application, you might also find an accumulator groove to help control combustion gas pressure, leading to better ring seal and consistent power. Some applications also include a skirt coating to further reduce friction and wear on the cylinder walls, which can also quiet down the engine operation.
