JE Pistons builds these from 2618 aluminum, a strong material chosen for the high tensile strength needed when you're pushing an engine hard. They're forged and machined entirely in the USA, with a proprietary Forged Side Relief (FSR) design that helps reduce friction and weight. Some applications might also include an accumulator groove to help manage combustion gas pressure, which can improve ring seal and keep power consistent. If your application includes a skirt coating, it's there to cut down on friction and wear, while also making the engine run a bit quieter.
