JE Pistons uses a proprietary Forged Side Relief (FSR) design. This means they've worked to minimize friction and power loss by reducing skirt width, and they save even more weight with a shorter wrist pin. Depending on the specific application, you might also find an accumulator groove, which helps control combustion gas pressure to reduce ring flutter and improve ring seal for consistent power delivery. Some applications also include a skirt coating that further reduces friction and wear on the piston skirts and cylinder walls, while also helping to quiet down the engine's operation.
