They feature JE's proprietary Forged Side Relief (FSR) design, which helps reduce friction and power loss by using a narrower skirt and a shorter wrist pin, also saving weight. Depending on the specific application, you might also find an accumulator groove to help manage combustion gas pressure, improving ring seal and keeping power consistent. Some applications also include a skirt coating to further reduce friction and wear on the piston skirts and cylinder walls, which can also help quiet down engine noise.
