The top ring on this JE Piston ring set is made from carbon steel with a chrome face, measuring 0.0315 inches thick. This material and coating help ensure a precise seal against the cylinder wall, which is crucial for maximizing combustion pressure and, in turn, horsepower. The second ring is ductile iron with a phosphate coating, also 0.0315 inches thick, working in tandem with the top ring to control blow-by.
