The proprietary Forged Side Relief (FSR) forging design is notable for how it minimizes friction and power loss by using a reduced skirt width and a shorter wrist pin, saving weight in the process. Depending on the specific application, these pistons may also feature an accumulator groove to help control combustion gas pressure, which can improve ring seal and keep power consistent. A skirt coating, also application-dependent, further reduces friction and wear on the piston skirts and cylinder walls, while also helping to quiet down engine noise.
