They feature a proprietary Forged Side Relief (FSR) design that helps minimize friction and power loss by using a reduced skirt width. This design, along with a shorter wrist pin, also saves weight. Depending on the specific application, these pistons may also include an accumulator groove to help reduce combustion gas pressure, which can improve ring seal and maintain consistent power. Some applications also benefit from a skirt coating that further reduces friction and wear on the piston skirts and cylinder walls, while also cutting down on operating noise.
