This design helps minimize friction and power loss by using a reduced skirt width and a shorter wrist pin, which also saves weight. Depending on the specific application, these pistons may also include an accumulator groove to reduce pressure from combustion gases, helping to prevent ring flutter and improve ring seal for consistent power delivery. Some applications also benefit from a skirt coating that further reduces friction and wear on the piston skirts and cylinder walls, while also contributing to quieter operation.
