They incorporate a proprietary Forged Side Relief (FSR) design, which helps minimize friction and reduce weight by using a narrower skirt and a shorter wrist pin. Depending on the specific application, these pistons may also include an accumulator groove to help control combustion gas pressure, improving ring seal and reducing ring flutter. Some applications also feature a skirt coating to further reduce friction and wear on the cylinder walls, which can also help quiet down engine noise.
