What sets these Ultra Series pistons apart is JE's proprietary Aligned Grain Flow forging technology. This process creates pistons with exceptional tensile strength, crucial for withstanding the extreme cylinder pressures found in boosted engines. They also come with custom-level features usually reserved for race-specific builds. The thermal barrier crown coating helps reflect heat back into the combustion chamber, keeping piston crown temperatures down and improving how efficiently exhaust gases are scavenged. Plus, the skirt coating reduces friction and wear on the piston skirts and cylinder walls, which also helps quiet things down, especially during a cold start. For maintaining a solid ring seal even at high RPMs and under high boost, these pistons include lateral gas ports.
